# 2. Virtual phone numbers

Get a dedicated virtual number for each company before the setup begins. Never use your personal number.

{% hint style="info" %}
**You:** buy and keep the numbers. They are needed for verification during setup and for taking over credentials afterwards.
{% endhint %}

You need a dedicated virtual number for each company before setup begins. Do not use your personal number for any service.

## Recommended services

| [**Krispcall**](https://try.krispcall.com/d0ye9ovwwn8s) | UK numbers — the most stable option for SMS and OTP. Requires ID verification (safe — Krispcall does not share this data) |
| **Quackr**                                              | One-time verification codes                                                                                               |

## Rules

* ✅ **1 company → 1 phone number.** Use that number for all services of the company: bank, PayPal, Stripe, Shopify Payments
* ❌ Never use the same number for more than one company
* ✅ UK numbers are more stable than HK numbers for receiving SMS
* ✅ Keep the numbers active — you will need them for 2FA and for [taking over credentials](/guide/setup-steps/step-7-credentials.md)

## Done when

* [ ] You have a dedicated number for each company in your package
* [ ] None of them is your personal number
* [ ] You can receive SMS on each of them

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.basiq-solutions.com/guide/setup-steps/step-2-phone-numbers.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
